Ideas 'n' Stuff
Just wanted to have an opportunity for folk to share ideas about places to go in Salisbury or ideas they've had.
Here's a couple to start with ...
Read It Swap It - new UK site
The Times reviewed this website in April 2007 and it's a great one if you're an avid reader.
Basically, it offers the opportunity to swap the books you've read with over 100,000 books that other people are offering to swap.
It's easy to sign up and all your new book costs you is the price of postage.
This is a really economical way to build up your book collection or ideal if you get through several books every week!
Check it out here.
Waitrose Cookery Demos
We're fortunate that in Salisbury we have one of the biggest Waitrose supermarkets.
What many people don't know is that right next to the cafe (at the far end of the store) they have a cookery studio where they run regular
demonstrations.
You can pick up the month's programme in store, and you'll find that many of the adult demos are free. Each demo lasts about an hour and
you get to watch (and taste!) several recipes - the cafe is right outside if you fancy a coffee, hot chocolate or snack before or after!
They're an ideal way to spend time with friends or a great way to get to know your neighbour, or that person you chat to in the school
playground.
Don't forget to pick up a programme and invite friends.
International Arts Festival May/June 2007
Whilst some of the festival events are for very specific audiences, there are a couple of events that are free enjoyment for the family
On Monday 28th May there's street theatre in the Market Square from 12 noon. Something fun to do with the kids on a Bank Holiday!
From 25th May to 9th June there's a photographic exhibition at Salisbury Arts Centre - inspired by the culture of the South American
peoples.
Places for Tea & Coffee
Looking for somewhere to get together for a chat and a coffee?
Here's a few suggestions of places where you can take time to enjoy your latte and catch up on the latest news:-
Mompesson House - if you're a National Trust member you can get in to the garden for free, if not it'll cost you £1. Teas are
served in the garden, service may be slow but the surroundings are lovely.
Salisbury Playhouse - a little known place to meet for one of the best hot chocolates in town.
Red Lion Hotel - a hidden haven of peace in the middle of Salisbury. On a warm day there's a lovely courtyard garden where you
can order tea, coffee and snacks.
Salisbury Museum Coffee Shop - the best kept secret in Salisbury. Enjoy a relaxing and inexpensive coffee in this Tudor
building just a minutes walk away from Salisbury Cathedral.
City Walks
An interesting idea for time with the kids or friends and family who are visiting.
Led by Blue Badge Guides, a guided walk costs £3.50 for adults and £1.50 for children.
Walks in last year's programme include:-
Search for Secret Salisbury
Historic Milford
Alderbury Turnpikes & Canals
Stratford Sub Castle
